Spanning from the prehistoric and pre-dynastic periods (c. 7000 BC) through the Bronze Age, Neo-Assyrian and wider Near Eastern civilisations, and onward into the Egyptian, Greek, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine eras, the collection encompasses over eight millennia of ancient art.

The sale opens with Magna Graecia and Ancient Greece, ranging from fine silver denominations to some of the finest Hellenistic gold of the period. Highlights include a seemingly unique gold stater of Sophytes, preserving one of the earliest known numismatic portraits from Hellenistic Baktria, together with a Kushan gold dinar depicting one of the earliest human representations of the Buddha on coinage. Judaea, Carthage & Numidia, and Persia & the East are represented by a number of important rarities, before the auction turns to Roman coinage. Among the highlights are a Mint State aureus of Pertinax, among the finest examples of its type to appear at auction this century, alongside gold issues of many of Rome's most influential rulers.
